Metro Manila, Philippines – On June 11, 2019, bottled tea brand Sosro Fruit Tea launched a video that commemorates Father’s Day by celebrating the love of fathers that is sometimes unseen, but is always felt.
The video, titled “Yes, Anak”, shows an elderly father being reminded by his daughter of the little things that he seemingly forgot. Then it is revealed that the daughter has symptoms of Parkinson’s disease—a degenerative movement disorder that also affects memory. It turns out that she was the one who was forgetful, with her father patiently caring for her and always responding to her requests with a simple “Yes, Anak.” The video can be watched on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=356879955014863.
“We wanted a meaningful Father’s Day video that goes beyond a standard greeting,” said Jerbie Ong, President of Reddimart Multi-Resources Inc. and owner of Sosro Fruit Tea Philippines. “To do that, we knew our story had to focus on something that’s different and often overlooked, while also generating awareness for a good cause.”
For this video, Sosro Fruit Tea partnered with the Movement Disorder Society of the Philippines and consulted with doctors to ensure that the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease were portrayed properly. “There is very little discussion about movement disorders and how much they can affect not just the afflicted patients, but also their families,” Dr. Anthony Piano, one of the doctors consulted for the project, said. “We were happy to partner with Sosro Fruit Tea this project to help spread awareness on movement disorders by showing just how much love and sacrifice goes into caring for those suffering from them.”
